How to travel with your pet?

Are you anxious just like when we were travelling with our pet for the first time? We understand how you feel. We launched Furry Travel with the goal to offer a personalised approach to pet travel - because not every pet is the same.

Every pet is unique, and so is every journey. We take the time to speak to you and understand your pet’s specific needs, preferences, and any special requirements. This allows our highly experienced team to give you several and recommended options to ensure the best possible travel experience for your pet. We can cater to every need and for every problem there is a solution.

Travel in Cabin

Travelling to and from the UAE in cabin can be highly complex as not all the airports and airlines do accept pets. Sometimes it is possible to fly to a certain destination with a specific airline but not back. At Furry Travel we know which airline is pet-friendly, have a good customer service, and what flight routes are best recommended. We can help from recommending the best route, to even booking your pet on your booking on your behalf.

Service Dogs

Service dogs have special privileges when it comes to air travel. We have extensive experience handling the travel arrangements for service dogs, ensuring they can fly with their owners in-cabin without hassle. We handle all necessary documentation and liaise with airlines to confirm your service dog’s spot in the cabin regardless of their size.

Flight Nanny Service

Managing kids, luggage, and pets can be overwhelming. Our flight nanny service provides a dedicated staff member to take care of your pet throughout the journey. From handling paperwork to ensuring your pet’s comfort during the flight, our flight nanny takes care of everything, so you can travel stress-free.

Travel in Cargo

As a pet-lover ourselves we do understand how stressful it can be for you and your pet to travel in cargo. Whilst as a company we will always try to consider cabin options where possible, sometimes it is possible that your pet has no other choice than to fly in cargo.

Cargo travel is also not as bad as what we think it is. Every dog is unique and has a different personality and copes with cargo travel differently. Some dogs are scared and stressed, but some dogs also just sleep through the flight and wake up at destination. Once the dog arrives at destination, we will take care of all the import formalities as it can take up to 6 hours after arrival and we will drop off your pet at your doorstep.

Travel in Private Jet

If you are considering to fly in a private jet there are several options possible. We do work with pet-friendly private jet airlines who charter an entire jet and split the costs between several pets in order to make it more affordable (although it's still not cheap!).

If you're looking to charter an entire jet just for you, we can also help achieve this by chartering a pet-friendly jet on your behalf and take care of all the documentation related to pet travel which remains a necessary step even if you fly private.

Forbidden Breed Import in the UAE

Do you have an Emotional Support Assistance dog or Service Dog that is considered a forbidden breed in the UAE? We have helped many customers obtain the necessary exemptions for importing their pet in the UAE.

Do you handle both import and export?

Yes, we handle both parts of the journey.

Do I need to do anything myself?

You have the option. There are some parts of the relocation process that you can do yourself to keep costs low. However, if you prefer a complete door-to-door package, including documentation assistance, we can provide that.

Will you deliver my pet from door-to-door?

Yes, we can collect your pet from your home and deliver them to your new home.

Can you manage my pet’s transit?

Yes, if your pet needs to change to a different airline during transit, we will manage the process. If there is no airline change, then no additional action is required.

How can I prepare my pet before the journey? What about food and water?

We have compiled a comprehensive guide on this topic, which you can find here.

Which vaccinations does my pet need?

We have dedicated an entire blog post to this subject. You can read it through this link.

Does the pet need to be registered in my name?

This is not mandatory but is recommended.

Do I need to have a UAE resident with a visa to import a pet?

No, anyone can import pets, and you do not need a visa or residence permit to travel with your pet to the UAE.

How do I choose the right crate for my pet?

We will handle that for you. It is important that the crate meets IATA standards; otherwise, it might not be accepted by the airline.

How do I measure my pet correctly for the crate?

Ensure to do this with two people for accuracy. Do not add extra centimetres to make your pet more comfortable, as the international aviation guidelines already require crates to be significantly larger than the pet. Additionally, larger crates can increase travel costs. You can find a complete guide on how to measure your pet here.

Will my pet get cold or hot during transport or flight?

No, the aircrafts are fully climate-controlled. At the airport, the crew follows special procedures to ensure animals are safe from the heat. Upon arrival, the staff ensures that pets are off-loaded first and taken to a special area.

Should I give my pet sedative medication before departure?

No. Changes in air pressure during the flight can cause physiological distress to your furry friend if they have been sedated.
